We all know the importance of loving yourself. But how many of us do it unconditionally (and that means no beating yourself up when you make a mistake)? Anita Moorjani, author of the excellent book Dying to Be Me says, “Love yourself like your life depends on it, because it does.”

This then begs the question, what happens when you don’t? On a physical level, we may experience ill health and there are thoughts that autoimmune diseases stem from a basic dislike of yourself.  This makes sense to me.  On a relationship level, we may not be attracting the right type of partners.  I know from experience that it’s a very challenging path loving someone who doesn’t love them self. On a spiritual level, we may not be shining our light and sharing our beautiful gifts with the world.

So what’s the path to self love?  Certainly kindness and compassion to self have a lot to do with it.  This means not judging or berating your self when you make a mistake. This is quite contrary to how many of us were brought up. Anita Moorjani also stresses the importance of allowing ourselves to be loved unconditionally. This applies to all love whether we are accepting the loving support of the universe, ourselves or from those dearest to us. If we shut off parts of ourselves which we think are unlovable these parts will not receive the illuminating light of love.

So let’s all fill up our hearts with the beauty, grace and wisdom of self love and let it ripple outwards to the people and world around us.

With much love from me to you, Anna
